In typical Friday fashion, today I’m sharing my very favorite items from around the web in food, healthy living, restaurants, fashion, and more!
This past week went by in a flash – I actually had a 3 day week thanks to the Labor Day holiday on Monday and a vacation day I cashed in on Tuesday. It was wonderful! The New England weather has been rather idyllic these past few days, too – not too warm and not too cool with a nice breeze. Early September is always one of my favorite times of year.
Much like January signifies a new start, so does September in many ways (at least in my mind). It feels like a fresh chance to press reset, get back into a routine, and focus on new goals. For me this includes setting a new workout schedule that includes more weightlifting, improving this little corner of the internet, honing my photography skills, and perfecting my budgeting (AKA reeling it in on spending).
We have a lot of weddings on the agenda this month (many out of state) meaning the next few weekends are going to be busy, so I’m doing my best to soak it all in before the month flies right by! I’m looking forward to my annual tradition of apple picking in Connecticut and getting back into the baking swing. Can you believe I only baked once this entire summer? Heating up a hot oven just does not sound appealing. Hey, the peanut butter cupcakes with dark chocolate frosting that arose more than made up for the lacking sweets. I’m also looking forward to hiking on local trails to see all of the changing colors. And maybe I’ll actually find a pumpkin beer I like this year? (Many of them tend to be too heavy for me.)
For now, though, I’m going to share a few of my favorites from the past week in typical Friday fashion. Here we go.
Maple pecan lattes + pumpkin coffee. This is the second time (I think) I’ve mentioned this on the blog, but the new maple pecan latte at Dunkin Donuts has quickly stolen my heart. I’m usually not a huge fan of Dunkin, but I do love maple lattes and have been dying to find one nearby after enjoying one at Liquid Art Coffeehouse in Killington, VT last winter (go there if you’re ever in the area!). This one did not disappoint and had wonderful hints of brown sugar and maple. I am now plotting my return! I also sipped my first pumpkin coffee of the season (pictured above) at Starbucks today. Dark roast + 2 pumps of pumpkin + half and half = fall in a cup.
Easy pesto “pasta” dinner. I whipped up some red lentil pasta (from Trader Joe’s – it’s made with literally just organic red lentil flour!) along with pesto, grilled chicken, and yellow squash topped with a bit of creamy tomato basil sauce (also from Trader Joe’s). It was such a quick, easy, and delicious meal and I know I’ll be making this one again. It’s perfect for meal prep since my husband and I tend to take leftovers to work all week for lunch. Anyone interested in the recipe?
RECIPES I BOOKMARKED
Ginger Peach Turkey Tenderloin. Yum! This recipe sounds like the perfect in-between meal since it incorporates a little summer (a peach-based sauce) and just a hint of fall (ginger). I might just make this for meal prep next week!
Crispy Fish Sticks with Sweet Pea & Potato Mash. Looks like a tasty and quick dinner! Right up my alley. Just don’t embarrass me for actually liking fish sticks or eating like a 10 year old, okay?
Apple Spice Energy Bites. I’ve tried a few of The Fitnessista’s amazeballs before and none of them have disappointed! This apple spice version sounds lovely with the addition of a little apple butter and dried apple chips.
ALL THINGS FALL
Apple crumble room freshener. Random, but I picked up these apple crumble wallflowers from Bath & Body Works for the downstairs level of our townhouse (AKA the cat room). Not even 5 minutes after I plugged it in the wall (in an adorable lantern holder – mine is sold out but this one is similar!) my entire house spelled like freshly baked apple crumble pie. Sometimes the simple things can be so satisfying.
All the sweaters + more. I love fall fashion, and the new arrivals have been rolling in. J. Crew Factory is one of my go-tos, and everything is so good right now. I’m admiring this plaid dress, this ruffle-front tank, this ruffle sleeve striped top, and this cascading cardigan. Give me one of everything, basically!
I can’t end this post without saying I’m thinking about everyone impacted – or still to be impacted by – Hurricane Irma. My in-laws are located on the west coast of Florida and still awaiting the forecast to determine if they need to drive inland. And I am devastated to hear about the Caribbean islands and other areas that were severely affected by the storm. Hoping for a recovery with time, but in the meantime, the scale of loss and damage is incomprehensible to me. So sad. Hope everyone stays safe this weekend!
