In typical Friday fashion, today I’m sharing my very favorite items from around the web in food, healthy living, restaurants, fashion, and more!
Hi and Happy Friday! This weekend is kicking off a little early for me this week because I cashed in a vacation day from work. I typically try to take a day or two off around this time every year to just be and enjoy the dog days of summer. I just love the lingering warm air, the feeling of infinity, and the slightly chilly mornings signifying change on the horizon. It’s the best!
I don’t have any solid plans for the weekend and I’m pretty pumped about spending time with my husband relaxing, grilling, and reading (I’m working my way through The Handmaid’s Tale – so good). Sometimes the best plans are no plans! Before we dive into Friday, I’d like to share a few things making me smile this week. Here we go.
The Chipotle of Greek food. Normally (99% of the time) I pack my own lunches to bring to work during the week. However, a new Greek place with a Chipotle-like concept called EONS Greek Food for Life recently opened just a mile away from my office, and I had to give it a go. I’m glad I did because everything was SO fresh, tasty, and high quality—many items are organic or grass-fed! And it was beautiful inside with chandeliers, mirrors, etc (see picture above).
I really like that you’re able to pick your base (rice or salad), protein (chicken, lamb, octopus, shrimp, falafel, etc), sides (chickpeas, beet salad, cucumber + tomato, etc), and dressing so the combinations are custom and endless. I rolled with a salad with lamb, chickpea salad, beets, and garlic dressing. Let’s just say a) I will be back and b) I’d like to purchase a gallon of the garlic sauce pronto. For my local readers, I visited the Paramus, NJ location, and there is a location in NYC as well.
Dairy + gluten-free pizza. Just to clarify, I do eat dairy (cheese is basically my best friend), but I happen to really like some of the dairy-free and almond-based cheeses out there. I gave this Daiya Mushroom & Roasted Garlic Pizza a go the other night and was pretty impressed with this frozen pizza. The “cheese” was very creamy + I could barely detect that it wasn’t the real deal. A good amount of mushrooms were included on top and the garlicy flavor was delicious.
RECIPES I BOOKMARKED
Authentic Lebanese tabbouleh. My husband is 1/4 Lebanese and we enjoy trying different foods like meat pies, fresh pita bread, lamb, and more. I have a feeling we’d both love this healthy version of tabbouleh from The Lemon Bowl.
Sugar cookie peach cobbler. Wow. This peach cobbler looks ridiculous: sliced fresh peaches tossed with maple syrup + cinnamon with a cobbler-esque topping that tastes just like sugar cookies! I think this would be the perfect dessert to bring to an end-of-summer get together or Labor Day barbecue.
Detox broccoli soup. Don’t yell at me for mentioning soup while it’s still August, but this velvety + creamy broccoli cheese soup made with almond milk is calling to me. It looks so decadent yet is somehow healthy.
Google’s new depression screening tool. Next time you Google depression, Google might ask you to fill out a questionnaire to evaluate you for depression. I think this is a wonderful idea given the high rates of mental illness in this country. Every little bit helps. Read more here.
Maybe we need less balance. Really interesting read on balance, especially if you strive hard to achieve it like I do. “Ever since I can remember, I’ve been told to strive for balance. Yet I’ve noticed something interesting: The times in my life during which I’ve felt happiest and most alive are also the times that I’ve been the most unbalanced.”
Hope everyone has a great weekend, and see you back here on Monday!
