In my typical Friday fashion, I’m sharing my very favorite items from around the web in food, healthy living, restaurants, fashion, and more!
Hi, friends! I’m pumped to be heading into a lighthearted weekend full of friends from high school visiting. We’ll check out Oyster Festival in Milford if the weather cooperates, and if not… I’m seeing some Cupcake rose, birthday cake (for a belated celebration), maybe a little shopping, and lots of laughs in my near future.
I’ve been feeling a little off this week – no particular reason I can hone in on – but possibly because the summer is flying by so quickly, and it has involved some not-so-nice weather on many weekends, some rough moments (a family member has been struggling with health issues), and some tough job-related decisions.
Life has its up and downs – it ebbs and flows. Ultimately, so much of it is out of our control, so we just need to trust that everything will unfold the way it should and on its own schedule. And in the meantime, all we can do is allow ourselves to feel what we need to feel, then hold our heads up and take comfort in the things we do have.
Because I know I have a whole lot: a husband who supports me in every decision I make, family and friends who would do anything for me, and the sweetest little kitten waiting for me on the steps when I come home who literally makes my heart flutter. It’s the big things and the little things. Without further ado, here are some of those things making me smile this week.
Greek kebabs + garlic sauce. Last weekend, I marinated grilled chicken breasts with lots of garlic, fresh lemon juice, meyer lemon infused olive oil I picked up in Sonoma, and a medley of herbs (a mix of fresh + dried). I then sliced the chicken up into cubes and added them to wooden skewers with a variety of vegetables, then served the kebabs simply grilled with a Greek yogurt garlic sauce for dipping. They turned out SO well. Recipe coming soon!
Watermelon, cherry, lime kombucha. I stumbled upon this new, limited edition flavor of GT’s Kombucha at Fairway the other day (pictured above; for those who aren’t familiar with kombucha, it’s a fermented and fizzy tea). This was my favorite flavor so far, and I’ve tried quite a few! If you can’t find it, though, I’m also a fan of the bilberry (sort of tastes like blackberry/blueberry) and guava flavors. I simply like the bubbly texture, but I also appreciate that kombucha is very good for the gut/digestion because it’s high in probiotics.
RECIPES I BOOKMARKED
Instant pot chicken tikka masala. While I don’t own an Instant Pot (am I the only one left on the face of this Earth?), I’m hoping I can modify this SkinnyTaste recipe for Chicken Tikka Masala very slightly to go in the CrockPot because I’m old-fashioned like that.
Strawberry basil avocado chicken. Um yes, I’m going to need to try this genius summery recipe from 40 Aprons ASAP. If you’re into Whole30, this one is compliant. But I’m in it for the fresh strawberry. And basil. Oh yeah, AND avocados. So much goodness.
Iced raspberry lattes. Holy heart eyes. Just look at that bright and juicy raspberry syrup in this fruity homemade iced coffee recipe from How Sweet It Is.
If fitness class descriptions were honest. Need a laugh? Check out these hilarious write-ups of various exercise classes. I chuckled.
Media coverage of Charlottesville. First, I must say that my heart goes out to the victims and all those affected by this senseless tragedy (I will never comprehend it). I found this NYTimes article on how the media captured what happened in Charlottesville interesting. I majored in journalism in college, so I’m interested to see how reporters/photographers captured such raw emotion and what moments they chose to define the events.
Have a great weekend no matter where it takes you, and see you back here next week!
